This all-Berlioz evening offers a vivid panorama of the symphonic artistry of Hector Berlioz, the quintessential revolutionary of French Romanticism. Le carnaval romain Overture, opens the programme with exuberant melodic invention and brilliantly saturated orchestral colour, capturing the kinetic, festive atmosphere of a Roman street carnival. The BENVENUTO CELLINI Overture, follows, distilling the dramatic ethos and fiery spirit of the opera into a work of sparkling theatrical vitality and compelling narrative momentum. The second half is anchored by the landmark Symphonie Fantastique, a work that fundamentally altered the course of orchestral music. Through its innovative symphonic design, recurring idée fixe, and startlingly evocative sonic palette, the symphony unfolds a turbulent psychological landscape of ardent obsession, hallucination, and poetic imagination. Together, these masterworks illuminate the full scope of Berlioz’s visionary genius, tracing a dazzling trajectory across the landscape of Romantic expression.
